100mi Wilderness

The 100 mile Wilderness - 6 day section hike

Imagine the fresh mountain air painting across your skin as you stand atop Whitecap Mountain. You are looking out on your first view of the majestic beauty herself - Mt Katahdin. It was a tough climb up but you were prepared for that. What you weren’t prepared for though, is just how vast and beautiful the the summit is. The 100 mile Wilderness is known for its pristine and rugged beauty. It delivers bountiful views to those who step away from the comforts and routine of daily life. Morning mist rising and moose drinking from lakes, moss blanketing every visible surface, and sunsets only those willing to climb for can see - this is the magic of Maine we rarely experience.

Join Chloë Rowse, a Registered Maine Guide, on a 6-day section hike of the 100 mile wilderness. Chloë has hiked throughout the world including a thru-hike of the 2,191mile Appalachian Trail in 2018. What a day might look like…

Total distance today: 9.5mi

We will wake up every morning at 6:00 to begin our day. Our mornings will start slow by sipping tea and coffee and appreciating the morning light through the trees. This is one of the most quiet and still parts of the day and should not be overlooked!

Once everybody is awake enough to move, we will flow through a short yoga class including several Sun Salutations to get our bodies ready for hiking. We will then eat breakfast together and pack up our bags to begin our daily adventure.

By 7:30 we will be on the trail. We will pick several spots to stop along the way and enjoy tasty snacks. We will eat lunch on the summit of Fourth Mountain today and take a break in the shade before continuing on for the afternoon. We will take advantage of any swimming opportunities the trail provides throughout the day! Our campsite tonight will be at East Chairback Pond. Once we arrive, we will stretch as a group and then set up tents and relax. Dinner will be prepared and we will gather together around a campfire to eat a well deserved meal, drink herbal tea and hot cocoa, and connect with our fellow hikers.
